Before you decide on which SUV to buy, it’s best to compare models to ensure you get all the features, power, and design elements you want in a new vehicle. In the three-row SUV segment, two excellent options are the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and the 2024 Hyundai Palisade. These SUVs both have some great features inside and out, but which one is right for you? This depends on your lifestyle and what you expect from your vehicle. Use this comparison guide to decide which SUV you want to be seen in on the streets of Bountiful, Utah.

Trim Levels and Exterior Designs

For the 2024 CX-90, you’ll have eight beautiful trims to choose from. Here they are along with their starting prices:

  • 3.3 Turbo Select: $39,595 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo Preferred: $43,445 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo Preferred Plus: $45,900 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo Premium: $48,900 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus: $52,950 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo S: $51,750 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo S Premium: $56,450 MSRP.
  • 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus: $59,950 MSRP.

Starting with the base 3.3 Turbo Select trim, you’ll enjoy exterior design features such as an attractive honeycomb grille with a black finish, aluminum roof rails with a Satin Chrome finish, and a body-colored rear roof spoiler. Upgrading to the 3.3 Turbo Preferred trim or higher gains you a power sliding-glass moonroof to let in the Bountiful sunshine and more exterior color options. If you want a convenient hands-free power liftgate with programmable height adjustment, go with the 3.3 Turbo Premium trim or higher. This is also the trim in which 21-inch wheels become standard.

You’ll only have six trim levels to choose from for the 2024 Palisade. These are your options and the starting prices for each:

  • SE: $36,400 MSRP.
  • SEL: $39,150 MSRP.
  • XRT: $41,550 MSRP.
  • Limited: $47,700 MSRP.
  • Calligraphy: $50,100 MSRP.
  • Calligraphy Night: $53,600 MSRP.

Although roof rails aren’t standard in the base trim like they are in the CX-90, the PALISADE has heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators and LED lighting features that are also standard in the CX-90. The PALISADE comes with standard 18-inch wheels, but higher trims offer 20-inch wheels. Unique features for the Calligraphy Night trim include a dark finish grille, dark finish door garnish, and dark finish chrome rear bumper garnish.

Interior Comforts and Technologies

You can comfortably seat seven or eight passengers in the Mazda CX-90 and the Hyundai PALISADE depending on the trim. Leatherette seating material in the CX-90 is soft and comfortable, and drivers enjoy the feel of the standard leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Cloth seats are standard in the PALISADE, but upgrading to higher trim means you get H-Tex trimmed seats for increased comfort. It’s easy to find the right seating position in the CX-90, as it has an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support. You get a six-way adjustable driver’s seat in the PALISADE.

Standard technology features in the CX-90 and PALISADE share some similarities, such as Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming capabilities, a 120-volt power outlet, and push-button start. Both SUVs also offer multiple USB ports and touch-screen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The Mazda CX-90 makes it a little easier to see your important driver information, giving you a 7-inch LCD display. With the PALISADE, the cluster gauge is only 4.2 inches, making it a little harder to read when you’re focused on the road.

Engine Performance and Specs

For the CX-90, every trim level has the same e-SKYACTIV-G 3.3-liter turbo inline-six engine. However, the engine can produce different horsepower and torque depending on the trim. In lower trims, this engine delivers 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, but in higher trims, it pumps out 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift that gives you more control over your driving experience. The rear-biased i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system ensures your wheels have the grip and traction they need even on icy or gravel roads.

Every 2024 PALISADE also comes with the same engine regardless of the trim. It’s a 3.8-liter six-cylinder block that gives you up to 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The system mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC. Front-wheel drive is standard, but you can upgrade to all-wheel drive if you want better traction for driving around Bountiful when it snows. You’ll have a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds no matter which of these capable SUVs you choose.

Safety and Security Features

Safety and security are important when you’re driving around Bountiful, and the CX-90 and PALISADE are both loaded with features that will help you stay safe as you travel. Some of the standard features found on both SUVs include a blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, and a rearview monitor. To keep kids safe, these SUVs have rear safety locks, and the CX-90 provides a rear seat alert and LATCH anchors in the second and third rows. A driver attention warning lets you know if you need to take a break and get off the road.

The lane departure warning alerts you if you drift out of your lane without using your turn signal. Higher trims feature a 360-degree monitor that lets you see all around your vehicle. This can help you get into a tight parking space and avoid objects you can’t see from the driver’s seat. Other helpful features are front and rear sensors that let you know if something is in your path when you’re parking. For the CX-90, upper trim levels have a secondary collision reduction system to provide more alerts if you’re about to get into an accident.
