The designers at Mazda understand how important safety is when you’re on the road in Bountiful, Utah. That’s why the company ensures it’s a top priority for every vehicle it makes. Mazdas are equipped with i-ACTIVSENSE, a suite of safety technologies that helps keep drivers alert and aware when they’re behind the wheel. Each vehicle is designed to minimize damage and injuries in the event of a collision. To give you peace of mind, we’re here to explain the standard and available safety features for Mazda vehicles so you know how they work.

Active Mazda Safety Features

Mazda’s active safety features provide visual and auditory alerts that help drivers stay aware of road hazards. These are the active safety features that are either standard or available for most Mazda vehicles.

Adaptive Front Lighting

To ensure you get the widest view of the road, the adaptive front-lighting system moves the headlights with cues from your driving. So when you turn the steering wheel, the headlights turn too. This feature also adjusts the lights based on your speed, giving you more light if you’re going faster.

High-Beam Control

When driving at night, the high-beam control will switch from high beams to low beams as needed. If there’s oncoming traffic or someone is driving ahead of you, your Mazda will automatically change to low beams, and then, when there’s no one in front of you, your high beams engage.

Mazda Radar Cruise Control

With Mazda radar cruise control, you can set your speed, and the system will adjust to the surrounding traffic. So if the car in front of you slows down, the radar cruise control senses it and slows down your Mazda. As traffic speeds up, your cruise control resumes at the speed you set. This keeps you a safe distance from the car in front of you.

Rear Vehicle Monitoring

Using sensors and radar technology, the rear vehicle monitoring system can alert you if vehicles are approaching rapidly from behind you. This prevents you from changing lanes when it’s unsafe. It tracks the distance between you and the vehicles behind you and gives an audible warning if you try to switch lanes when a car is approaching.

Lane Departure Warning

Your Mazda has side sensors that can track the lines in the road. If you drift over the lines without using your turn signal, you’ll get an audible warning from the lane departure warning system. This prevents you from drifting into another lane unintentionally.

Forward Obstruction Warning

The forward obstruction warning uses sensors to track the distance to objects in front of your vehicle. If you get too close to another vehicle or object, you’ll get an audible and visual warning. This can help you avoid a collision.

Passive Mazda Safety Features

Although the active safety features in your Mazda can help prevent accidents, collisions can still sometimes happen. That’s why your Mazda vehicle has features that help reduce the impact and damage an accident can cause.

SKYACTIV-BODY

A world-class structural design, the SKYACTIV-BODY of Mazda vehicles can disperse the impact from a collision in multiple directions. If your car is hit, the engine releases to create a space to absorb the impact. To disperse energy from a side impact, the doors have side impact bars, and the strong underbody helps protect the fuel tank.

Supplemental Restraint Air Bag Systems

Mazda vehicles have supplemental restraint air bag systems that work alongside your seat belt to prevent serious injury if you’re in an accident. Your Mazda will have front driver and passenger airbags that deploy in moderate or severe impacts from the front. Side curtain airbags deploy if you’re hit from the side of your vehicle. These airbags prevent you and your passengers from going through the windows and can keep your head and chest safe.

Seat Belts With Pretensioners

Although seat belts have been standard in Mazda vehicles for many years, the pre-tensioner seat belts are a newer innovation. This type of seat belt will tighten up in the event of a collision to help keep you from being thrown forward in an accident.

Anti-Intrusion Brake Pedal

An anti-intrusion brake pedal differs from a standard brake pedal because it gets released in the event of a collision. Because most brake pedals move forward with the dashboard, they can damage a driver’s leg in a collision.

Pre-Crash Safety Technology

With these pre-crash safety technologies, you can relax knowing you’re safe behind the wheel.

Smart City Brake Support

If there’s something in front of you when you’re driving at a low speed and you accelerate instead of hitting the brakes, the Smart City Bake Support system will reduce engine power and apply pressure to the brakes for you. Before the system kicks in, you’ll receive an audible and visual warning.

Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission

To help prevent a collision, the Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmission monitors engine power and output. If there’s an object in front of you and you accelerate rapidly, the system will warn you so you can stop before causing a collision.

Mazda Connected Services and MyMazda App

Mazda Connected Services is an innovative feature that allows you to interact with your vehicle through the MyMazda app. This feature helps you stay safe and keep track of important data about your Mazda.

Wandering aimlessly through a parking lot searching for your vehicle can be dangerous, especially at night. With your MyMazda app, Mazda Connected Services pins the location of your vehicle so you can always find where you parked.

Start Your Engine

Use your MyMazda app to start your vehicle remotely. This means no sitting in your car waiting for the heater to warm up or the air conditioning to cool you down. You can just get in and go.
