Subcompact crossovers are now a common sight on the road, and one of the most popular is the Mazda CX-30. Introduced in 2019, the CX-30 is known for being a solid alternative to larger SUVs and for its sporty design and sharp handling. The 2024 model is expected to continue this trend when it hits the market toward the end of 2023. Let’s take a closer look at the features of the latest Mazda CX-30.

Changes to the 2024 Model Year

The Mazda CX-30 has not had a major redesign since its debut. Many of the changes made to the vehicle over the years are related to performance. These include introducing a turbocharged engine option for the 2021 model year, making all-wheel drive standard in the 2022 lineup, and boosting the power of the CX-30 base engine in 2023.

A quick look at the news regarding the newest model year reveals just one noteworthy change: A Carbon Turbo trim that will also roll out with the latest Mazda3 and CX-5. This will only be available with the turbocharged engine and will feature a Zircon Sand Metallic exterior. The interior for this trim will also stand out with terracotta leather-upholstered seats and black suede and gunmetal accents.

Trim Levels

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 is expected to come in the same trim levels as its predecessor, with the addition of the Carbon Turbo trim. In terms of pricing, it will likely cost slightly more than the current model, which is par for the course with new releases. Here are the current trims for the Mazda CX-30:

  • 2.5 S.
  • 2.5 S Select.
  • 2.5 S Preferred.
  • 2.5 S Carbon Edition.
  • 2.5 S Premium.
  • 2.5 Turbo Premium.
  • 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus.

Exterior

The Mazda CX-30 features a sporty appearance, as well as bold curves and sleek lines that adhere to the automaker’s Kodo design philosophy. This aesthetic is characterized by a sense of motion achieved through the careful placement of lines and contours that reflect light and create shadows.

Standard features include LED headlights, combination taillights, daytime running lights, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. A power moonroof and a height-adjustable liftgate are available on the higher trim levels. Heated and power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn signals and an auto-dimming function for the driver’s side can also be included.

Interior

The handsome interior of the Mazda CX-30 has been likened to that of the Mazda3. Features such as leather-trimmed seats, heated steering wheel, and heated front seats in the higher trim levels add to the cabin’s upscale feel. Standard offerings include power windows and door locks, keyless entry, adjustable headrests, and split-folding rear seats. The higher trims also include other features, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat with lumbar support and memory settings, and a rear center armrest complete with cup holders.

While the CX-30 isn’t the best in its class when it comes to cargo space, it has a decent amount of storage behind the rear seats at 20.2 cubic feet. There are also several cubby holes throughout the cabin. The Mazda CX-30 offers enough room and a comfortable ride for five passengers. For those looking for more storage and seating, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 is a great option. If you need a full-sized SUV experience, then the 2024 Mazda CX-90 is for you!

Power and Performance

The Mazda CX-30 is an all-wheel-drive vehicle that offers two engine options. The first is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 2.5-liter turbo engine with more punch, producing a maximum of 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque.

When it comes to fuel economy, the highest combined EPA rating for the current CX-30 is 29 mpg for the non-turbo engine model. This is impressive for its size, making it one of the most fuel-efficient gas-powered vehicles in the EPA’s small SUV class. We can expect the same rating for the 2024 model year.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Take a quick look at the center console of the CX-30, and you’ll notice a rotary knob that controls the infotainment display popping out from the middle of the dashboard. Deviating from the touch-screen interface in many other vehicles today, this setup may seem counterintuitive. However, it makes for a more seamless user experience, which is what Mazda aims to provide its customers.

All current CX-30 trims come with the Mazda Connect infotainment system and a trial subscription to Mazda Connected Services. Higher-end models also come standard with the Mazda navigation system. These, plus the following features, are expected to remain in the 2024 model:

  • An 8.8-inch center display.
  • HD Radio and internet radio integration.
  • SMS text messaging through voice control.
  • Voice command.
  • An eight- or 12-speaker Bose audio system.
  • Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Traffic and Travel Link trial subscriptions.
  • A 7-inch LCD meter display.
  • Windshield-projected Active Driving Display.

Safety

Mazda considers safety a top priority. The CX-30 is equipped with advanced safety and driver-assistance features to protect its occupants and other drivers on the road. These include the following:

  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.
  • Anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
  • Dynamic stability control with traction control.
  • Lane departure warning and lane-keep assist.
  • Driver attention alert.
  • High beam control.
  • Rearview monitor.
