The Mazda CX-5 small crossover SUV is one of the most highly rated vehicles in its class, thanks to its exciting performance, agile handling, and upscale cabin. When you buy a CX-5 from Bountiful Mazda, you can be sure it’s built to the highest standards to provide you with many years of efficient, trouble-free motoring pleasure.

However, to ensure that your CX-5 keeps running reliably and maintain your warranty coverage, it’s essential to have it serviced at the correct intervals according to Mazda’s recommended maintenance schedule. You should also only use an authorized Mazda dealer for your service needs, such as Bountiful Mazda, where you’ll find factory-trained Mazda Technicians and genuine Mazda parts.

Mazda CX-5 Maintenance Schedule

Depending on where and how you mainly drive your Mazda CX-5, the maintenance schedule for your vehicle can differ slightly. For normal driving, your car will be set for Engine Oil Flexible Maintenance. Your CX-5 determines the lifespan of the oil and alerts you via a light on the instrument cluster when an oil change is needed.

Driving regularly in the following conditions may require Engine Oil Fixed Maintenance, with shorter service intervals and extra checks:

  • Driving short distances
  • Dusty conditions
  • Extended brake use
  • Muddy or rough roads
  • Long periods of slow speeds or idling
  • Driving for long periods in very hot, cold, or humid conditions
  • Consistently driving in mountainous areas
  • Driving in places where salt and other corrosive substances are used

If you drive in these conditions, check in with our Mazda service center for the severe driving maintenance intervals. For this guide, we’ll use the schedule for normal driving.

Every 12 Months or 7,500 Miles

After 12 months or when you reach 7,500 miles, whichever comes soonest, your CX-5 will be ready for its first service, at which the technician will change the engine oil and filter.  On average, a car’s brake pads last for around 40,000 miles, but if you regularly drive in stop-start traffic, they can wear out sooner. The Mazda technicians will inspect your braking system’s components for any excess wear to ensure your safety, and we include a tire rotation every 7,500 miles to help them wear evenly and last longer.

Every 24 Months or 15,000 Miles

At 15,000 miles, in addition to the items above, the technician will replace the cabin air filter, which prevents dust, pollen, and other airborne impurities from entering your CX-5’s interior. They will also inspect the drive belts, fuel lines and hoses, brake lines and connections, the steering and suspension, and drive shaft dust boots. The nuts and bolts on the body and chassis will be checked and tightened.

36 Months or 22,500 miles

After 22,500 miles, we will replace your car’s engine air filter. A dirty and clogged filter can cause your engine to respond sluggishly. Depending on your driving style, it’s possible your CX-5’s tires, brake pads, and brake rotors may need to be changed at this point. The technician will inspect them closely each time and change them as necessary.

48 Months or 30,000 Miles

At this point, in addition to the services carried out at 15,000 miles, the technician will inspect the vehicle’s emission hoses and tubes. If there are cracks, holes, or signs of excess wear, we will replace them.

60 Months or 37,500 Miles

The 37,500-mile service is similar to each 7,500-mile check-up, with the addition of an inspection of the exhaust system and heat shields.

The service cycle repeats from here. At each inspection, components that are found to be worn will be replaced to keep your CX-5 in tip-top condition so that you can feel confident and safe on the road.

Additional Service Items

In Mazda CX-5 models equipped with the Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, the spark plugs need to be replaced every 40,000 miles. For non-turbo models, the interval is 75,000 miles. The spark plugs affect your car’s performance and fuel efficiency.

The engine coolant should be flushed and refilled at 10 years or 120,000 miles for the first time. After that, it should be every five years or 60,000 miles. The coolant system works at extremely high temperatures, and the rubber hoses can harden and crack and will need replacing.

MyMazda App

At Bountiful Mazda, we encourage you to use the MyMazda app to help you get the most out of your Mazda CX-5 ownership experience. The app can be calibrated to your car’s mileage and shows your service schedule and service history. In addition, you will receive notifications when maintenance issues need attention, such as when the oil, tire pressure, or lights need to be checked.

With the MyMazda app, you have access to Mazda Connected Services and in-car Wi-Fi capabilities. You can start your vehicle’s engine directly from your phone and restore the climate control to its previous setting before you even get into your car. Additionally, if you forget where you parked your CX-5, the app can pinpoint its exact location on a map to help you find it.

Warranty Coverage

Your new Mazda CX-5 comes with a 3-year or 36,000-mile new car limited warranty and a 5-year or 60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, but failing to maintain your car properly according to Mazda’s recommended schedules can void these warranties in part or whole. If you need to make a warranty claim, you will be required to show your vehicle’s maintenance records, along with receipts for each service, repair work, and parts used. The best way to ensure that your warranty remains valid is to always take your car to an authorized Mazda dealership.

When you schedule service at Bountiful Mazda, you can be sure that our Mazda-trained technicians know your CX-5 better than anyone and are scrupulous when it comes to maintaining it. We only use genuine Mazda parts and products to ensure that your car keeps performing as well as it did on the day you purchased it.
