SUVs are currently very popular, mainly due to their incredible versatility. They perform outstandingly well in crowded city traffic and on long road trips and can hold their own in off-road environments, making these vehicles matchless. Mazda’s SUV lineup features various well-designed and capable SUVs, including the Mazda CX-30. While the 2024 CX-30 is still part of the first generation Mazda introduced for 2020, the manufacturer continues to make improvements with each model year. Keep reading this guide from our team at Bountiful Mazda to discover how the 2021 Mazda CX-30 compares to the current 2024 edition.

Well-Equipped Standard Versions

The 2021 and 2024 Mazda CX-30 models offer many useful standard features. These include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, an eight-speaker sound system, an 8.8-inch touch-screen infotainment display, and seamless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The main difference between the two model years is that the 2021 CX-30 gave you an all-wheel-drive option in addition to the standard front-wheel drive, while the 2024 model has all-wheel drive as standard.

Plenty of Additional Trims With Exciting Features

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is available in seven trims: the standard 2.5 S, Select, Preferred, Premium, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Premium, and 2-5 Turbo Premium Plus. The Select trim adds useful features and upgrades existing ones. Its highlights include larger 18-inch wheels, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, elegant simulated leather upholstery, and keyless entry. The Preferred and Premium trims add luxury features, such as a sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, and a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system. Higher trims offer enhanced performance and extra driver aids.

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 features two new trims: the Carbon Edition and Carbon Turbo. As their names suggest, they give the CX-30 a unique look. The Carbon Edition has 18-inch black-painted wheels, Polymetal Gray Metallic exterior paint, black exterior mirrors, and red leather seats. The Carbon Turbo is slightly different and includes a Zircon Sand grey paint, black-painted wheels, and Terracotta-colored leather upholstery.

Excellent Performance Specs

The 2021 CX-30 has two powertrain options. The standard version is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates up to 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, which Mazda pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. While this should be more than enough for most drivers, you can choose the upgraded version, available on the 2.5 Turbo trim and higher, for enhanced performance. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine has a power output of up to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, slightly more when you use 93 octane gas. The turbocharged version accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.

Mazda continues to use the standard engine 2.5-liter four-cylinder on the CX-30, but its engineers have managed to get a little more horsepower out of the 2024 variant, pushing its maximum output to 191 horsepower. The turbocharged version has the same specs as the 2021 version, proving that the CX-30 offers excellent performance regardless of its model year.

Upscale and Comfortable Interior

The Mazda CX-30’s interior is spacious, stylish, and comfortable, regardless of its model year. Its seats perfectly balance softness and support to keep you and your passengers comfortable even after a few hours on the road. The well-balanced suspension system cancels out most minor road bumps while being stiff enough for a more sporty driving style. The overall cabin design makes the CX-30 appear much bigger on the inside than on the outside. It also provides plenty of legroom and headroom for all passengers.

Many Useful Advanced Driver Aids

There’s a vast range of advanced safety features in the 2021 and 2024 Mazda CX-30 editions to draw your awareness to potential road hazards, greatly reducing the chances of accidents. If an unfortunate collision does happen, the Mazda CX-30’s strong body and advanced air bag system help keep everyone inside safe, as the vehicle’s five-star safety rating from The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration demonstrates. Here are some useful advanced driver aids on the 2021 and 2024 versions:

  • Forward collision mitigation: Alerts you if it detects an imminent frontal impact and automatically applies the brakes if necessary.
  • Adaptive cruise control: Maintains a steady speed while driving on a highway and adjusts it to ensure a constant distance between your car and the one in front.
  • Lane-keep assist: Automatically keeps the CX-30 centered in its lane by making small steering corrections when necessary.
  • Driver monitor: Uses special sensors to detect driver fatigue and alerts you when it’s time to take a break.
  • Automatic high beams: Control the CX-30’s high beams, automatically turning them on when driving on dark roads and dimming them when another vehicle approaches from the opposite direction.
  • Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking: Uses special sensors to monitor traffic from either side while backing up and automatically breaks if it senses a vehicle approaching.
  • Traffic jam assist: Makes driving in heavy traffic easier by using the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist functions to move the CX-30 automatically at speeds under 40 miles per hour.
  • Surround view camera: Gives you a top-down view of the CX-30, which can be useful when maneuvering and parking in tight locations.
