Small SUVs are a great choice if you’re looking for a vehicle that can easily make its way through city traffic but is also supremely spacious and comfortable on the inside. The Mazda CX-30 fits this category and its quality Japanese build means that you can enjoy it for many years with little or no issues. However, to keep it running smoothly for a long time, you need to follow some basic maintenance rules.

7,500-Mile Maintenance

The first time you need to visit your local Mazda dealership is around the 7,500-mile mark. You don’t have to worry about forgetting to book your maintenance appointment, as your CX-30 will display a wrench on your maintenance monitor, reminding you that it’s time for a routine checkup.

The most important aspect of your 7,500-mile maintenance visit is changing your Mazda’s oil and oil filter by flushing out the existing oil and replacing it with a new one. Changing your oil at regular intervals is essential for any gas-powered vehicle, as they all rely on metal parts constantly moving and touching each other, creating friction. Motor oil’s purpose is to lubricate those parts and to prevent them from overheating and as time goes by it starts to lose some of its effectiveness. Our certified technicians will also inspect and rotate your tires.

Your second trip to your Mazda dealership should be around the time when it reaches 15,000 miles. Our certified technicians will start by performing the operations that take place every 7,500 miles, which are changing your oil and rotating your tires. Then, they will perform a series of inspections to make sure the car is as good as new after being driven for 15,000 miles.

When checking and rotating the tires, they also inspect your brake pads to determine their condition. Most cars, including your Mazda CX-30, have a standard braking system that consists of brake pads pushing against brake discs when you push the pedal, causing the car to slow down and eventually come to a complete halt. Over time, the brake pads get thinner and thinner from all the friction, eventually needing to be replaced. The time interval in which you need to replace your brake pads greatly differs depending on your driving style, so they may not need replacing after 15,000 miles.

Besides checking your braking system, our certified technicians will also inspect other components, like fuel lines and hoses, steering linkages, and suspension components, making sure they’re all in optimum condition. They also replace the car’s cabin air filter, which tends to get clogged over time and reduce the efficiency of your CX-30’s climate control system. Regularly changing your air filter also regulates the air pollution level inside the cabin, eliminates most allergens, and reduces the strain that an ineffective air circulation system puts on the car’s engine.

45,000-Mile Maintenance

Once you reach 45,000 miles with your Mazda CX-30, you will need to replace its engine air filter. The filter’s role is to stop small particles from entering the engine and damaging it and, over time, it will get clogged. Besides potentially prolonging your engine’s life span, replacing your engine air filter every 45,000 miles can also improve the car’s fuel efficiency and performance. Your 45,000-mile maintenance visit also includes all parts of the 7,500-mile and 15,000-mile checkups, like changing your oil, rotating your tires, inspecting the condition of your brake pads, and other routine checkups.

120,000-Mile Maintenance

When you reach 120,000 miles in your Mazda CX-30, there’s every chance it will run as well as it did the day it left the dealership, if all previous maintenance operations were done in time. Our certified technicians will perform all usual maintenance operations and, in addition, will replace your Mazda’s coolant liquid. Doing so can help remove all debris and rust accumulated over time, which may damage your radiator and cause engine overheating. We’ll also inspect the entire cooling system for signs of existing damage and replace any coolant hoses that may have deteriorated.

During this checkup, our technicians will also inspect your Mazda CX-30’s serpentine belt, which is a long rubber belt that connects vital engine accessories, including the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. Over time, it may develop signs of wear and tear and replacing it will prevent it from breaking while driving, which would stop the engine and require roadside assistance to get fixed.

Special Conditions

If you regularly drive under certain conditions, the recommended scheduled maintenance intervals should be every 5,000 miles, instead of the regular 7,500, with this applying to all maintenance intervals. Those conditions are:

  • If you constantly idle your car for long periods of time or regularly drive it at unusually low speeds, which may be the case for taxis, police vehicles, door-to-door sales services, or driver’s education vehicles.
  • If you live in a particularly dusty area.
  • If your driving habits include driving for long periods of time in very cold weather or if you constantly use your Mazda CX-30 to drive very short distances, not allowing the engine to reach its optimum temperature.
  • If you live and drive in an area with especially hot temperatures throughout the year
  • If you constantly drive your Mazda on mountainous roads.
