Every driver has slightly different criteria when deciding which car to buy. While safety, comfort, economy, and versatility are all important, a fun drive can also be a priority for some. Mazdas have always had a sporty look and feel, and the 2024 lineup is no different. If you’re on the right roads and feel like going fast, these models ensure you can hit the gas pedal hard and enjoy a few seconds of sheer thrill.

Mazda Models by 0-60 Speed

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the quickest Mazdas in 2024. Although most current-generation Mazda models are SUVs and sedans, this doesn’t mean they can’t push you into your seat when you accelerate. While we’ll focus on acceleration times, the distance it takes them to come back to a complete stop is also essential, as the safety of everyone inside and around your vehicle is a top priority. These are three of the fastest Mazda models, based on zero-to-60 acceleration times.

2024 Mazda CX-30

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 is a small SUV designed to help you make your way through crowded city traffic while also being a trustworthy companion on long road trips. Mazda’s engineers have successfully managed to fit the brand’s sporty DNA into an SUV shape, making the CX-30 arguably the most fun-to-drive vehicle in its class. This is mostly due to its precise steering, powerful engines, and all-wheel-drive system.

Its base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that can generate up to 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This should be more than enough for most drivers, especially with an acceleration time of a little over eight seconds for it to reach 60 mph from a complete standstill. This is quite impressive, considering many other vehicles in its class take 10 seconds or more to reach that speed.

If you’re looking for truly remarkable acceleration times, you can choose the optional turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. It generates 250 horsepower and pushes the CX-30 to its limit, going from zero to 60 mph in only 5.8 seconds. That’s quicker than many smaller and less comfortable vehicles. Braking distance is also excellent for the 2024 Mazda CX-30, as it only needs 179 feet to come to a complete halt from a speed of 70 mph. Its top speed is around 128 mph.

2024 Mazda CX-5

If you’re in the market for a quick and agile SUV but are looking for a little more interior space than the CX-30 can give you, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 could be just what you’re looking for. This compact crossover SUV is one of Mazda’s most successful models ever, and for good reasons. It’s not only quick off the mark and easy to drive but also comes with a luxurious and well-designed interior. It has everything you want from an SUV but with sedan-like cornering and acceleration.

The 2024 CX-5’s base engine is similar to the one on the CX-30, namely a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. It outputs up to 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed automatic transmission helps transmit its power down to the wheels. This powertrain reaches zero to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds.

As with the CX-30, if you’re looking for explosive acceleration times, you can opt for the turbocharged version of this model. The turbo 2.5-liter engine generates an impressive 256 horsepower and only needs 6.6 seconds to go from zero to 60 mph. It needs 185 feet to stop from 70 mph. That’s slightly longer than the CX-30, but it’s understandable, given that it’s larger and heavier. Its top speed is around 130 mph.

2024 Mazda3

Not everybody wants and needs an SUV’s interior space. If you prefer a more compact and cozy hatchback, the 2024 Mazda3 might be perfect for you. This doesn’t mean that you’d be compromising on interior comfort and luxury, as it stays true to the Japanese carmaker’s high standards. It’s also a spectacular car to drive on curvy roads due to its exceptional steering and handling, plus the available all-wheel-drive system further boosts its performance.

Mazda’s excellent 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is also present on this model. It generates up to 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque with the help of a six-speed automatic transmission. Since the Mazda3 is lighter than the Mazda SUVs that also use this engine, it only needs 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. It’s also highly responsive, making you feel like you’re driving a much more powerful car.

As with the other two models we’ve discussed in this article, if sharp acceleration is a top priority when choosing a vehicle, you can go for the turbocharged version of the Mazda3. The 256 horsepower it generates will push it from zero to 60 mph in a sensational 5.6 seconds — almost sports car territory. As you’d expect from such a light and agile vehicle, it also boasts an impressive braking distance. It only needs 169 feet to fully stop when traveling at a speed of 70 mph. Its top speed is around 134 mph.
