CX-70 Overview

The CX-70 fits into the midsize SUV class. It's larger than Mazda's popular compact crossovers, the CX-5 and CX-50, while sharing similar dimensions with the midsize CX-90. Unlike the CX-90, however, Mazda's latest vehicle to hit showrooms doesn't have a third row of seats in the cabin.

You can choose from two gas-powered engine options in the CX-70, and a plug-in hybrid version is also available if you're looking for the best fuel economy. There's a range of trims on offer, allowing you to have a comfortable cabin or one with luxurious features, including suede finishing and wood trim.

The various trim options mean that the Mazda CX-70 price can vary. The base trim starts at $40,445 MSRP, while the range-topping trim in the gas-powered lineup comes in at around $55,950. The CX-70 plug-in hybrid starts at $54,400 and has a range-topping trim with a price tag of $57,450.

Engine and Performance

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is powered by an I-6 engine that provides solid power for city roads and highways alike. Top publications, such as U.S. News & World Report, have described this engine as among the best in the midsize SUV class. You can get 280 horsepower out of it if you stick to its base configuration or boost it to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque by stepping up the trim ladder. Regardless of the engine configuration, your Mazda will come standard with all-wheel drive.

Gas mileage in the 2025 Mazda CX-70 doesn't change much between the standard engine and the upgraded version. The base engine is rated at 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The more potent powertrain still manages 28 mpg on the highway but drops slightly to 23 mpg in the city.

If you choose the CX-70 plug-in hybrid, your powertrain will consist of a four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh battery pack. Combined, this setup produces 323 horsepower and a combined gas mileage of 56 MPGe. You should be able to travel 26 miles on all-electric power when your battery is fully charged.

Interior and Cargo

You'll understand straight away when you look inside the cabin why the CX-70 is one of Mazda's most upscale vehicles. Even the base Preferred trim features leather upholstery and heated front seats for your comfort. The trizone automatic climate control lets all passengers travel at their preferred temperature. You also benefit from standout features such as a sunroof and keyless entry.

Both rows of seats are adult-friendly, with plenty of headroom and legroom. Behind the second row, you'll find an expansive 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space, which should be more than enough for a weekend drive out of town. You can also fold down the rear row to open up enough space for bulky items. The maximum cargo storage for the CX-70 is 75 cubic feet.

Infotainment and Safety Tech

Mazda equips the CX-70 with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and an eight-speaker stereo. In terms of connectivity options, you can make use of Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for your phone. Amazon Alexa, wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also included. You can upgrade to even more luxuries, including a 12-speaker stereo and a navigation system to help you reach your next destination.

You'll also benefit from a long list of standard safety features and several add-on options. Many of the standard features go well beyond what you'd usually expect to find included in a base safety package. For example, you get stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, which manages your speed and braking in stop-and-go traffic, as well as blind-spot monitoring and a driver attention monitor. On top of that, you get forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

In an emergency, the evasive steering assist feature can help you avoid a crash. The rear-seat alert reminds you to check for passengers or pets before you get out of the car, and the vehicle exit assist alerts you to approaching traffic from behind when you open the door.

Mazda CX-70 Trims

There are five gas-powered CX-70 trims — Preferred, Premium, Premium Plus, S Premium, and S Premium Plus — plus two plug-in hybrid options. In the gas lineup, the Premium trim adds 21-inch alloy wheels instead of the 19-inch wheels offered in the base Preferred. Inside, you get a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, a navigation system, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The range-topping S Premium Plus features ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, heated second-row seats, and nappa leather upholstery.
