Vosen’s Bread Paradise

Vosen’s Bread Paradise is located at 328 West 200 South in Salt Lake City.

This family-owned authentic German bakery has a unique history. Markus Vosen trained and worked for years to meet the strict regulations of “Meisterbrief” or “Certified Master Baker” in Germany. When his wife Silvia took a job in Salt Lake City, his dream of opening a bakery in the U.S. was born.

Markus brought all his German baking equipment overseas, renovated an entire historic building with his father’s help, and opened the bakery in 1997. Vosen’s Bread Paradise was an instant success, and the menu has evolved to include more than 100 items. Try a raspberry croiliner, German salt pretzel, cherry streusel, or bagel.

Les Madeleines

Les Madeleines is located at 216 East 500 South in Salt Lake City.

Since opening in 2003, Les Madeleines has offered a unique collection of sweet and savory French baked goods. From gourmet croissants to authentic macarons, all the items are made from scratch with the finest ingredients.

However, it was the establishment’s kouign-amann cake that caught the community’s attention, establishing Les Madeleines as the first bakery west of the Mississippi to serve the authentic Breton pasty. The flakey, gooey, crunchy pastry with salted caramel flavors has gained national recognition on TV and in magazines. Still Les Madeleines’ pièce de résistance almost 20 years later, you can’t visit the shop without adding a kouign-amann to your order.
